Brothers and Sisters,

I was blessed to be the musician in residence for the Summer Missionary Conference of the ELCA which was held in Naperville, Il this past July.  Actually, I’ve been blessed to be the musician for this event for the last dozen years or so, and it is always one of the highlights of the year for me.  The theme was immigration, and it turned out to be very apt for the current events.  Rev. David Vasquez, Rev. Rafael Malpica and Bishop Elizabeth Eaton were the primary speakers and they were each fantastic!

This year I started out with an idea of a song called “Children at the Border,” and each day at the conference the song developed as I got inspiration and ideas from the various speakers.  Each day a slightly different version of the song was presented.  Here on the web site, the final version is presented in both lead sheet and piano vocal score.  Just click on “sheet music” and find the title.  Soon, an MP3 will be available.

The song will be assigned a CCLI number, but it is free for congregational use and for anyone who is supporting the cause of these refugee children.

Peblejah!

Dr. Abe
