Favorite Hymn and Biblical texts in New Settings by Dr. Abe

 Ecumenical, Intergenerational, Cross-cultural Musical Party!

Place: Greenwood Forest Baptist Church (GFBC), 110 SE Maynard Rd, Cary, NC, 27511

Date:  October 14, 2018

Time: 4 pm

Cost: Freewill offering to benefit victims of kidney disease

Dr. Abe Cáceres, ethnomusicologist and founder of World House Music (WHM), will partner with Greenwood Forest Baptist Church (GFBC), Christ The King Lutheran, Good Shepherd UCC, Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian, Oromo Evangelical Ethiopian Lutheran, White Plains United Methodist, and local artists for this concert. The event will raise funds to provide support to Vinney Galindez and, through the American Kidney Fund (AKF), other individuals who suffer kidney disease.  Kidney disease affects 30 million Americans, and many related costs are not covered by insurance.

The AKF provides prevention outreach, top-rated health educational resources, and direct financial assistance for patients to access lifesaving medical care, including dialysis and transplantation. Charity Navigator includes AKF on its “Top 10” list of nonprofits with track records of outstanding stewardship of the donated dollar. For more information visit www.KidneyFund.org

The program opens with two mass choir selections: This is the Day, and I Am Available to You, O Lord.  It closes with the final mass choir selection, El Bautismo. This exciting Afro-Latin setting recounts the story and meaning of baptism, and includes dance movements for the congregation.

An East-West fusion of In Christ There is No East or West is scored for Chinese gongs, flute and organ.  The Church’s One Foundation is set as a Puerto Rican danza. Youth and the young at heart will have the opportunity to dance the Jamaican limbo!

Would you like to sing in the 100 voice mass choir?
