Hi Folks!  Happy Fat Tuesday!

And today I’m doing a happy dance!

A year ago today,  The Shaw University choir, the choirs of the Kirk of Kildaire and a group of outstanding local musicians in Cary, NC, collaborated in an intergenerational, cross-cultural, urban suburban, interracial, interdenominational musical bonanza of a concert to raise funds to send the first ever concert grand piano to go to Tanzania.  Less than nine months later, that piano arrived at the port of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania!  Hundreds of students of Tumaini University Makumira will enjoy this instrument this year, and thousands more in the years to come.  As my sister Dr. Loñieta aptly says, “they have the piano, and we have the memory of a wonderful concert.”

The Piano and Music for Tanzania project goal of $32,500 included the funds necessary to purchase and ship the piano, plus $10,000 for deserving Tanzanian students.  We are still raising money towards the scholarship funds, and WHM is delighted to announce that Trinity Lutheran Church of Cedarburg, WI has made ANOTHER gift of $1,000 towards to this part of the project!  This brings us to 77% of our goal!

Thanks to Dr. Lonieta Thompson Cornwall, Shaw University choir, Dr. Larry Abernathy, the choirs of the “Kirk,” the local musicians, Trinity Lutheran of Cedarburg, and the hundreds of individuals and institutions that have contributed to this project.  And yes, let’s do a Fat Tuesday happy dance!

Donations are still being accepted and gratefully received at the world House Music website, or at the address below.  If writing a check, please specify Tanzania, and 100% of your donation will go to the project.

Thanks and Peblejah!
