“Were not our hearts burning within us….” (Luke 24:32) The English title of this composition “Hearts On Fire” consists of 12 letters. Via a chart I have devised, displayed below, each letter is assigned to a musical note to create the main theme. “Hearts” corresponds to AEADFE.  “On”  corresponds to AG. “Fire” corresponds to FBDE.  Following that system, the opening flourish consists of the words “Love” and “Joy” coming down and “Amor” and “Gozo” going up. The main theme “Hearts on Fire” is then introduced: the words “Hearts on” AEADFE  AG are played on the pedals, and the word “Fire” FBDE is played on the manuals. Variations on “fire” FBDE, imitate excitement and energy.

A familiar hymn, “All Creatures of Our God and King,” is incorporated and interwoven with the Hearts on Fire theme.  At the end, a pedal solo based on the words “Corazones Encendidos,” brings the piece to a climatic statement of the melodic equivalents of Love, Joy, Amor, Gozo and “fire,” FBDE, and “fuego,” FGEGA.
